About Escapay
We Know What It’s Like to Pack Up and Go
Escapay didn’t start in a boardroom. It started after years of living in places we love enough to put up with the occasional natural disaster.
We’re a family-owned business, and unfortunately, evacuating isn’t theoretical for us. We’ve packed the car, watched the weather obsessively, lost power, lost cell service, scrambled for somewhere to sleep, and tried to figure out how much all of this was going to cost while also wondering what we’d come home to.
One of our most memorable evacuations happened during Hurricane Ian in 2022. Pinellas County ordered mandatory evacuations for Zones A, B and C, and hundreds of thousands of Tampa Bay residents lost power during the storm.
At the time, we were still relatively new to marriage, kids and a mortgage—which is a very expensive combination even when there isn’t a hurricane headed your way.
And somehow, after all of that, we still didn’t come up with Escapay. That took a few more years.
Eventually, though, the idea became pretty obvious: evacuating is expensive, stressful and incredibly disruptive, even when your home ultimately ends up being completely fine. There should be something that makes the financial part of leaving a little easier.
So we created Escapay.
We’re building it for families like ours, and for everyone else who chooses to live near beaches, mountains, forests and other beautiful places that occasionally tell us, very firmly, to get out.
Because we understand why you stay. We wouldn’t trade the sunsets, the water, the neighborhoods or the life we’ve built just because Mother Nature occasionally gets dramatic.
Evacuating may be part of living somewhere you love. Stressing over finances doesn’t have to be.
Evacuating from Hurricane Beryl. We spent $150 and three to four hours sitting in the only spot we could find with electricity and Wi-Fi.
Our COVID-era evacuation during Hurricane Elsa. Family let us stay in their retirement community, but as a young family on a tight budget, it was still taxing.
What Escapay is
Escapay is evacuation insurance that pays a fixed cash benefit when an official mandatory evacuation order covers your address. No receipts, no claim forms and no waiting to find out whether your homeowners policy applies.
- Enter your address. Your evacuation zone determines your price.
- Get covered before storm season. Coverage starts after a short waiting period.
- Get paid when the order comes. We verify the order against official sources and send your benefit.
Escapay is launching first in hurricane-prone coastal areas and isn’t available for purchase yet. Read our FAQ to learn more.
What we stand for
Paid by the order, not the paperwork
If officials order your address to evacuate, that’s the trigger. You shouldn’t have to save every receipt to get help.
Priced by your address
Your risk depends on where you live, so your price should too. No guessing, no one-size-fits-all.
Built by people who evacuate too
We’ve sat in the traffic and paid for the hotel. Every decision starts with what would have helped us.
